“The Story of the Series ‘The Pit’ (Çukur)”
“Çukur” (The Pit) is a Turkish dramatic and family series full of action, crime, and gang warfare. It was produced in Turkey in four seasons by Ay Yapım company, and the number of episodes reached 132. The series stars Aras Bulut İynemli as Yamac Koçovalı, Dilan Çiçek Deniz as Sena Koçovalı, and Ercan Kesal as Idris Koçovalı. The series began airing on Show TV in 2017 and concluded in 2021. “Yamac’s and Sena Koçovalı’s Lives”
The protagonist of the series and the youngest son of the Koçovalı family, characterized by intelligence and good planning skills. He decided to leave Çukur to start a new beginning away from his family’s business after a dispute with his father, Idris, and found the love of his life away from home. However, at his mother’s request, he returns to protect the family, which turns his life and the lives of those he loves upside down. As for Sena, Yamac’s wife and great love, she is a beautiful young woman who loves life and is also described as crazy with sharp temperaments. She is forced to confront the Koçovalı family, which compels her to postpone achieving her dreams with Yamac for another time.
“Çukur (The Pit) and a New Beginning”
“Çukur (The Pit) is one of Istanbul’s most dangerous neighborhoods and is controlled by the Koçovalı family. Despite its close association with crime, the family has its own rules: it prohibits drug trafficking. However, one gang insisted on breaking this rule, and the neighborhood and the family were attacked during Yamac’s absence, in which his brother was killed and his father was taken to the hospital. Yamac is forced to return to Çukur and leave Sena with her family in Izmir. Afterwards, the war begins between Vartolu and his men, Yamac, and the people of the Pit.”
“The Hardest Choice”
Tension reaches its peak in the Çukur neighborhood as everyone plays by their own rules. During this, Yamac finds Vartolu’s weak point and confronts him with it. Vartolu, in turn, promises Idris and Yamac the surprise of their lives in return for what they did to him.
Yamac faces the hardest tests of his life: on the one hand, he must stay with his father to protect Çukur, and on the other hand, he must go to his beloved Sena, who is in danger. The conflict between Vartolu and Yamac intensifies, drawing the battle lines between them, while Sena tries to escape Çukur and leave everything behind.
The first season ends with the surrender of Idris, who suffered the greatest devastation in his life after everyone turned against him. Following this, he hands over Çukur to Vartolu. Yamac, however, refuses to surrender and decides to continue the fight to defend everyone.
The Pit Season 2 Events
The Return of cumali Göçovalı
After the Black Sheep gang takes control of The Pit, Yamaç returns determined to reclaim it. Simultaneously, Kumali, Yamaç’s older brother and Idris’s eldest son, returns from prison after years of separation from his family. Kumali is driven by revenge and a desire to reclaim The Pit. He is reckless and ruthless, qualities Yamaç rejects. Therefore, Yamaç demands one chance from Kumali: if he cannot reclaim The Pit on his own, he will follow Kumali’s path.
A gunshot rings out in the pit.
The sounds of gunfire in the pit foreshadow a new and much larger storm. Yamaç Koçovalı, critically wounded by the gunshot, will fight for his life. Tensions among the residents of the pit will gradually escalate after this incident, as everyone tries to uncover the traitor in their midst. This will bring them one step closer to the truth about who shot Yamaç.
At the end of the second season, Yamaç and Selim race against time to find Sena. Meanwhile, Idris tries to bring the Koçovalı brothers together to reunite them. After Aliku attempts to escape from Yücel, Yamaç is driven to madness and seeks help from Selim’s son, Akin, whose presence will raise many questions. Finally, a series of unexpected developments will plunge Çukur into a completely new era where nothing will be the same.
The Pit Season 3 Events
Revenge for Idris Koçovalı
After Idris is shot, Yamaç returns to avenge him against those responsible. Meanwhile, other family members mourn the death of their father and the former leader of the Pit. Selim’s son, Akin, tries to prove he deserves to lead the Pit after Idris, while Cumali Koçovalı searches for a way to escape from prison to avenge his father’s murder.
Kidnapping and a New Conflict
Sudden developments in Çukur will lead to a major confrontation between Yamaç, Selim, and Akin. Those living in Çukur are prepared for a potential attack on the neighborhood at any moment, but this time they will take necessary measures when attacked. However, the surprise will come from an unexpected attacker. The kidnapping of women in Çukur will also send shockwaves through the neighborhood. Yamaç, who has finally managed to bring down everyone who stood in his way with the help of the Çukur residents, will find himself facing a completely new world and a more ruthless enemy.
At the end of the third season, new conflicts will emerge between Çağatay Erdenet, the main enemy in Çukur and the de facto head of the Erdenet family, and Selim and Cumali, whom the people of Çukur will try to protect. This will put Yamaç in a difficult position, as he is now seeking to bring Çağatay Erdenet to an end.
The Pit Season 4 Events
Yamaç Faces Challenges
Yamaç, who was tasked with protecting Arik at Cengiz’s request, will also find himself in a battle with Arik to protect the Pit. Meanwhile, news of Arik’s death has a devastating impact on the Erdenet family. When Yamaç takes action to protect the Pit, he finds the entire Pit family united behind him. It is then that Yamaç can clearly see that his family is in danger due to Cengiz’s actions, so he will take a step that will surprise even Cengiz himself.
Yamaç confronts Çağatay once again.
Yamaç devises a brilliant plan to eliminate Çağatay and quell Cumali’s anger. However, tensions rise within the Koçovalı household, and a battle between the brothers ensues. Selim takes the first step to lead the Pit. In a completely unexpected moment, Yamaç receives good news, but immediately afterward, a major confrontation awaits him with Efsun, who had intended to destroy the neighborhood but backs down after Yamaç connects her to him.
The Final Confrontations:
Yamaç finds himself in a precarious position due to the sudden attacks on the Pit, which will leave everyone on edge. With all the connections within the neighborhood, these massive attacks will finally unite everyone. Yamaç faces Cengiz Erdenet, while Cengiz and Çağatay do their utmost to force Yamaç to surrender. Çağatay, having lost to Yamaç once more, pushes Cumali to the point of no return. Here, Yamaç and Cumali will face off in a real confrontation for the first time since the death of their father, İdris, forcing Yamaç to seek Selim’s help to stop Cumali.
The End of the Pit Series
In the final events of the fourth season, the wounds of the Koçovalı family begin to heal. Developments within the Koçovalı household, particularly concerning Efsun, mark a new turning point for everyone. While Yamaç believes he will finally find peace after Çağatay’s death, he is deeply distressed to learn that Efsun is leaving home and immediately sets out to find her and bring her back. Finally, in the final scene, Yamaç is shown on his deathbed, surrounded by his family, children, and grandchildren, having grown up in The Pit, bidding them farewell as his soul departs his body.
Important secondary events in the series The Pit:
Rashid Fazlullah, an Afghan man, becomes an enemy of the Black Lambs gang and then of the Koçovalı family. However, he ultimately sides with Yamaç, helping him in his fight against Cengiz Erdenet.
The story of the Valley of the Wolves series
Yücel is one of the founders of the Black Lambs gang, but over time he breaks away from the gang and becomes the right-hand man of Baykal, Efsun’s father. His main motive for his animosity towards the neighborhood is to avenge his father’s murder at the hands of Idris in the past.
Uncle Cumali Koçovalı, Idris’s brother, was expelled from The Pit by Idris in the past, and a grave was built for him to make people believe he was dead. However, he reappears in The Pit with the goal of assuming leadership of the Koçovalı family.
